To Shampoo or Not to Shampoo hmmm

shampooDid you know that your scalp makes natural oils that nourish your hair, these oils help to moisturize and keep your hair healthy and strong. People who have straight hair usually have to wash more often because it  gets oily fast.  However when you have curly hair the oils take longer to reach the tips because it has to go through all the winds and curves it the hair strands, this can take a few days depending on the person.  Washing your curly hair every day can lead to dry and weak hair, when you do shampoo your hair only apply shampoo to the roots! NEVER THE ENDS! Many people think that the more suds that you get while scrubbing mean your hair is getting cleaner, this is WRONG, actually the suds are the enemy.  The suds in your shampoo are caused by sulfates, sulfates are in

“90% of soaps, shampoos, conditioner, shower gels, shaving cream, facial cleansers, detergents, toothpastes, mouthwash, dish soap, cleaning products, cosmetics, lotions and other products that “foam” and “bubble.”-Lana Loketff

Do you really wanna use the same chemical that is in detergent and cleaning products on your scalp?! I don’t think so.. Sulfate has alcohol in it that dries out your hair and scalp, this is why your hair feels so nasty after shampooing.  An easy fix is to buy a sulfate free conditioner.  Remember, moisture is the key to healthy hair, and dry hair will surly lead to split ends!

Honey and Orange Face Mask

honey

Oranges

I call this my Magical Skin Fruit.  Oranges contain vitamin C which improves skin texture and also works as a toner to even your skin color.  There is also Beta-carotene in oranges which the body converts to vitamin A.  Vitamin A  functions to strengthen the protective outer layers of your skin; aiding this protective layer reduces breakouts, and prevents scarring, it also speeds up the process of healing scrapes or punctures on the skins surface, and if you force your pimples to pop like I sometimes do it helps with a fast repair.  Oranges restore the collagen, in your skin, this keeps your skin firm, this helps to prevent signs of aging.

Honey

sams blog“Honey has been used by humans through the centuries to help maintain healthy skin and hair.  One of the most beautiful women in the world, Cleopatra,  legend has it, applied a honey mask to her face every morning and took milk and honey baths to keep her skin smooth, healthy, and youthful” –Honey Cosmetics

If you thought the benefits of oranges were amazing wait till you learn what honey is capable of.  Honey acts as an antibacterial which works against pimples and reduces inflammation, like oranges it also treats abrasions.  Since honey is sticky, it soaks up impurities in the skin and retains moisture to keep your skin from looking dry and oily and instead your skin will look radiant and smooth.  Honey is an ingredient that is in almost all cosmetic products.  The sun takes a huge toll on our skin.  Exposure to the sun increases the appearance of sagging of the skin, wrinkles, and  freckles turn into dark spots.  Honey protects your skin from harmful sun rays so it is a natural product that reduces aging and wrinkles.

Face Mask

4 Table spoons of honey

2 Table spoons of squeezed oranges

Leave the mixture on for as long as you would like, you can also heat it up or add salt to it and use it as a face scrub. **If you use salt make sure you don’t scrub your face too hard, you want to scrub enough to take off the dead skin but not so much that you will cause small abrasions or irritate the surface**

Me

I read online about the benefits of oranges and went crazy with it, I drank 3 gallons of orange juice in a week.  I saw the difference in the color of my skin, my old pimple scars lightened up and my skin looked and felt healthier.  My face is not usually oily or dry, its pretty neutral but it did used to look pale, when I started using the mask it made my face feel very moisturized and vibrant, people told me I looked like I was glowing after a few days.  Now my roommate and I do it every night at 10:30 and keep it on for an hour while we do homework.

Let me know if this worked for you or if you know of something that worked better!
